Amanda Bossard graduated from high school in 1992 and began an education in marine science at the Alaska Pacific University, Anchorage. Bossard started her journey in the commercial seafood industry in 1999. In that year she worked as a fisherman on Murat Aritan's 65 foot halibut boat. It was transformed into a fish tender. Bossard got married to Aritan in 1999 and the couple have teamed up to defend their businesses. Both are advocates of saving and maximizing the use of sustainable resources within the seafood industry. In 2007, the mother of two young children Bella aged 3 as well as Andre 1 Bossard before returning to her home in Philadelphia established a direct wholesale distribution of seafood named Otolith. She and her husband are separated by 5 months and she is able to concentrate on her goals in terms of finances and her environmental goals. Bossard as well as Isabella and Andre (ages 12 and 10 respectively) are back each year, from July to August and continue to Southeast Alaska for the summer harvest of wild salmon. After two months of fishing hooks along with lines as well as a 42-foot salmon troller they have joined Aritan and sold local processors of seafood.
